Mr. Bates joined PennEnergy Resources in 2018 as a Corporate Development Analyst, focused primarily on corporate strategy and financial modeling. Since joining PennEnergy, his responsibilities have grown and he was promoted to Corporate Development Manager, followed by Senior Vice President of Corporate Development, and most recently to President.

He has executed numerous transactions at PennEnergy, including the sale of a midstream gathering system, acquisitions of joint venture partner interests, and divestitures of non-core assets. During his tenure as SVP Corporate Development, he oversaw the Reservoir and Geoscience teams as well as corporate planning and strategy.

His current role continues to encompass corporate strategy, all M&A/A&D activities, and the development of PennEnergy’s asset base. He is responsible for the management of the Corporate Development, Land, and Operations teams with a focus on optimizing the business, both strategically and technically.

Mr. Bates’s career started as an investment banking analyst at FMI Capital Advisors in Houston, TX. His role was directed at creating sell-side M&A materials and valuation backup for the Energy Equipment and Services industry.

Mr. Bates holds a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering and a Master of Science in Business, both from Texas A&M University.
